Where is the penguin? This winter sight word game is great for students who are practicing sight word recognition and beginning reading skills. This game can be used in a pocket chart or on a table top for an early education classroom.

Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text. RL.4.3. Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words, or actions). RL.4.4. Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including those that allude to significant characters found in mythology.

I used this resource with one of my guided reading groups. They completed the packet as they read the story "The Chalk Box Kid" by Clyde Robert Bulla. If they finished they could choose from the extra activities. Answer key is included!
