Engaging Stations Professional Development (Canva Copy Link)

As educators, we shifted away from incorporating hands-on resources in the classroom during the onset of COVID-19. Utilizing hands-on materials provides students with a tactile and experiential approach, offering a tangible way for learners to connect with abstract concepts and enhance understanding. Through hands-on engagement, such as manipulating objects or participating in interactive activities, students can more readily comprehend intricate ideas and improve information retention. It's now opportune to revisit and rediscover the hands-on resources available for classroom use or those that may have been overlooked.

Ron Clark 55 Essential Rules Slides (Canva Copy Link)

The daily focus is on one rule at a time, spanning from Rule 1 to Rule 55. You have the option to print a weekly slide to share with parents or use it as a classroom guide. Additionally, you can download the slide as an image for social media sharing or use it on your smartboard for teaching and modeling each week's rule. Each slide features the corresponding Ron Clark rule accompanied by a relevant picture. The editable slides allow customization to align with your school's preferences, including the option to replace pictures with images of your students exemplifying the rule.

Engaging Top Chef Professional Development Template (Canva Copy Link)

This Canva Template Presentation revolves around the "Top Chef" theme, featuring a teach-off challenge for teachers to showcase their expertise in the focused teaching strategy or best practice emphasized in the professional development. Within a specified time frame, teachers will research the topic, create presentations, and present in front of judges, fostering a dynamic and collaborative learning environment. Similar to the show "Top Chef," this format encourages teachers to learn from each other, gaining insights into diverse strategies for classroom implementation.

Number Sense Professional Development Template (Canva Copy Link)

This number sense presentation equips teachers with a variety of instructional strategies and activities to make mathematical concepts more accessible and engaging. This will enhance their ability to tailor teaching methods to diverse learning styles. Teachers can seamlessly integrate number sense concepts into the existing curriculum.

Behavior Management Professional Development Survivor Theme (Canva Copy Link)

Transform your typical P.D. into an unforgettable journey with a Survivor-themed twist. Engage your educators in challenges that mirror real-life pedagogical scenarios, fostering teamwork and strategic thinking.

Addition and Subtraction Strategies PD (Canva Copy Link)

The Significance of Act 3, Scene 1 in Hamlet - PowerPoint

By Mark Barrett

This is a 14-slide PowerPoint presentation which includes a video extract from the RSC of the famous soliloquy being performed.

It considers the main themes of the Scene but also includes some questions for students to think about and/or discuss, as well as a more detailed analysis of how a particular question might be approached.

  • The presentation focuses on Act 3, Scene 1 of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It begins by setting the scene and introducing the characters, providing context for the themes discussed later. The main themes explored are appearance vs. reality and madness.
  • Setting the Scene: The scene takes place in the castle of Elsinore, where the characters are gathered to watch a play. The atmosphere is tense due to Hamlet’s erratic behavior.
  • Introduction of Characters: Key characters include Hamlet, Ophelia, Polonius, and the Players. Each character’s role and significance in the play are discussed.
  • Appearance vs. Reality: This theme is explored through Hamlet’s soliloquy and the Players’ performance. Hamlet’s soliloquy reveals his distrust of appearances and his desire for truth, while the Players’ performance highlights how appearances can be deceiving.
  • Madness: The theme of madness is closely linked to appearance vs. reality. The characters’ behavior and dialogue are analyzed to uncover the extent of their mental breakdown.
  • Conclusion: The presentation concludes by emphasizing the intertwined themes of appearance vs. reality and madness, and their significance in Act 3, Scene 1 of Hamlet.
  • Discussion Points: The presentation ends with discussion points to engage the audience in further analysis of the themes and characters.

  • Writing for Speech and Debate

*****************************************************************************************

Introducing how to practice for presenting a speech has never been easier! This comprehensive lesson guides students through a step-by-step process of the different methods of how to practice a speech and how to prepare for presenting a speech. Students will also become familiar with how to participate in discussions, pose and respond to questions, and paraphrase information.

This lesson allows students to practice and develop their speaking and listening skills. The students will develop confidence in speaking that will cary over into presenting reports, telling a story, and using relevant details as supporting evidence,

When an elementary student begins a Public Speaking Unit, it is quite often the first time he or she has been required to speak in public, other than the basic Show and Tell. Therefore, it is important to make sure the students become familiar with the basics of how to stand, speak, move, and make eye contact during any type of public speaking situation.

This lesson is adaptable for in-class instruction, distance learning, or independent student work. The PowerPoint and worksheets can be used for whole-class instruction or assigned for students to complete at home.

All materials are available in both Google Drive™ and print formats, ensuring easy access for all students.

Welcome to an enchanting world of drama activities designed to captivate and inspire your middle school or high school students! This engaging bundle features ten thought-provoking scenarios rooted in classic fairy tales, encouraging students to explore themes of identity, decision-making, and self-discovery. From Cinderella's modern twist to Snow White navigating the realms of social media, each scenario invites students into a realm of creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative learning. With rich character dilemmas, these activities offer a unique blend of dramatic arts, moral exploration, and language arts, and challenge students to analyze, interpret, and perform in a manner that's both entertaining and educational. Unlock the magic of drama in your classroom as students delve into timeless tales with a contemporary twist, fostering a love for storytelling, character development, and meaningful discussions. Your students are sure to be spellbound by the imaginative world of Fairy Tales and Monologues Part 2. If you enjoy this activity, check out Fairy Tale and Monologues Part 1!

What Students Will Be Doing:

This is a 3-part assignment that incorporates both individual and group assignments. Groups of students (4-6) are responsible for writing an individual monologue, a group script and a final monologue reflection. Students will take on the role of a character from a well known fairy tale. In the individual monologue, students will get to explore the perspective of their character and how the new dilemma a character is faced with should be solved. The group will then figure out a solution to the dilemma and will write a short script to show their resolution. After the group has resolved the dilemma, each character will have an opportunity to reflect on how their character feels about the outcome. Don't worry I've included some rubrics that you can use for each section too and some worksheets to help guide student thinking.

The Great Gatsby SLIDESHOW LECTURE | A 9-page Lecture to Accompany the Slideshow

By Rigorous Resources for High School English

This EDITABLE lecture was created to accopany a pre-reading slideshow on the life of F. Scott Fitzgerald and the culture of 1920s America. What you'll get is an 9-page lecture created to accompany a 41-slide PowerPoint presentation called "The Road to Gatsby: A Slideshow on F. Scott Fitzgerald and the Roaring Twenties."

Whether or not you choose to purchase the 9-page lecture, the actual SLIDESHOW can be downloaded for FREE by clicking HERE.

Here's a quick glimpse into each of the four sections featured in the slideshow:

• Part I. The Artist as a Young Man: This section features photographs of Fitzgerald from his childhood in Minnesota, his college years at Princeton, his military training at Camp Sheridan, and his romantic courtship of Zelda Sayre in Montgomery, Alabama. Your students will be fascinated by the parallels between Fitzgerald's life and Jay Gatsby's upbringing, military training, and romantic life. After all, it is only because Gatsby is wearing his military uniform — which erases the signs of his class status — that he can get close to Daisy Faye! (13 slides)

• Part II. New York in the Artistic Imagination: This section features photographs and paintings of the rapidly changing skyline of New York in the 1920s. Photographs by Alfred Stiegliz reveal how 5-story brownstones were replaced by 50-story skyscrapers. Paintings by Georgia O'Keefe and Howard Thain reveal how the invention of electric lights imbued the cityscape with color and romantic allure. (7 slides)

• Part III. The Characters as Readers: This section will not only prepare students to catch the literary allusions in The Great Gatsby but will get students thinking about what the books that various characters are reading might reveal about their personalities. What does his interest in Horatio Alger's rags-to-riches novels reveal about the character of Jay Gatsby? What does his interest in Lothrop Stoddard's The Rising Tide of Color reveal about the racist and xenophobic views of Tom Buchanan? (7 slides)

• Part IV. Drafting The Great Gatsby: This section features photographs of the mansions and parties that Scott and Zelda attended on Long Island in 1923. It also features Fitzgerald's handwritten drafts of the first and last pages of his novel, a list of the six titles that Fitzgerald rejected (plus the title he actually preferred but requested after the book had gone to print), and the painting by Fancis Cugat that Fitzgerald selected for the cover of The Great Gatsby. (12 slides)

This slideshow will come to you in a 41-slide EDITABLE PowerPoint presentation which you can customize to the needs of your students!

Again, this 9-page EDITABLE lecture can be purchased for $1.99. The lecture was created to accompany a 41-slide EDITABLE slideshow that can be downloaded for FREE by clicking HERE. (Sellers are only able to upload one document per TeachShare product, so I've had to upload the lecture under a separate product listing. Apologies in advance for the inconvenience). As a bonus for purchasing the lecture, you'll also get a Spotify playlist of the songs played at parties in The Great Gatsby.

Thank you for choosing “Rigorous Resources”!!

Happy teaching!

Adam Jernigan, Ph.D.

Note: The lecture and slideshow are also included in my Gatsby MEGA-Bundle.
