No download is required to use Microsoft Sway (https://sway.com) - a free product, making it easy for teachers who are not able to download software on classroom computers to still give their students a choice in learning.\n\nIn this lesson, students are provided with a quick tutorial, as well as links to other resources to help them with their project. The tutorial is intended to help students get started with the program and then use the resources within the program to refine their creations. Students create a presentation about a topic of interest related to the Age of Imperialism from a provided list after researching the topic. They use that information along with graphics, pictures and backgrounds from the Internet and also supplied in Microsoft Sway, to create a finished presentation that explains their topic, and add their own opinions and insights to the project.\n\nThis is an excellent creative project to add to a unit on the Age of Imperialism. Severe Weather and Natural Disasters: Five Informational Reading Passages in B&W
By Science and STEAM Team
This resource is an introduction to natural disasters. It contains five informational reading passages. It was made for the NGSS 3-ESS3-1 and 4-ESS3-2 Earth and Human Activity Standards.
It covers the following natural disasters:
Earthquakes
Floods
Hurricanes
Tornadoes
Volcanoes
The passages were written with third graders in mind, but the information is very interesting and complex and would be useful for upper grades as well.
There is a tips sheet for teachers and two recording sheets for students. One recording sheet is a graphic organizer for students to fill in as they read. The other one asks them to draw and label the natural disaster they have studied.
These are great to use whole group, in small groups, with partners, and even at centers!
There is a bonus mini poster on natural disasters as well.

The project is divided into fourteen sections, including the front pages. Sections include Language/Population, Habitat/Geography, Family Structure, Government, and several others. Each section has a list of criteria and questions that must be answered to complete the section.
I would expect a single student to take about ten weeks, with a weekly goal (perhaps a little faster) of completing one section.
There is a score for each section and teacher info on ways to make it work.
The project contains a cover sheet, a teacher's page, two student pages and a sheet to help students select an appropriate civilization.
There is also a list of civilizations that have an abundance of information available on line.

Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

Age of Imperialism - Research & Presentation Project in Microsoft Sway
By Innovations in Technology
This unit connects learning with technology to Social Studies. This is perfect for technology class or for use in a Social Studies or History classroom that wants to incorporate technology with a lesson. No download is required to use Microsoft Sway (https://sway.com) - a free product, making it easy for teachers who are not able to download software on classroom computers to still give their students a choice in learning.
In this lesson, students are provided with a quick tutorial, as well as links to other resources to help them with their project. The tutorial is intended to help students get started with the program and then use the resources within the program to refine their creations. Students create a presentation about a topic of interest related to the Age of Imperialism from a provided list after researching the topic. They use that information along with graphics, pictures and backgrounds from the Internet and also supplied in Microsoft Sway, to create a finished presentation that explains their topic, and add their own opinions and insights to the project.
This is an excellent creative project to add to a unit on the Age of Imperialism. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with upper elementary or high school students.
