Students are more likely to work towards higher levels of achievement when they have access to assessment tools used to evaluate their work. These three student-friendly 2-Point Short Response Rubrics consist of language that students are familiar with and can easily understand. These Rubrics enhance students' understanding of how their work will be evaluated. At the bottom of the rubric, there is a "Scorer" section where the teacher/scorer can provide comments and feedback on students' writing responses. This is an excellent tool for lower level, Special Ed, and ELL students.

These Rubrics can be used for peer evaluation. Students can use these "easy to follow" rubrics to evaluate the work of their peers and provide comments and feedback.

It takes between 4-6 periods to complete and is appropriate for grade 5-8. Please note: This assignment works best if you are able to access Apple Music. As a teacher, you could always set up a free account to show to your students or ask your students if any of them already have it and would be willing to show the class how it works. Spend some time and show them how to use it if you have access to it. You can also see some demos from the Apple website. If you do not subscribe to Apple Music, I highly recommend it. This is an independent reading preparedness and preparation rubric I use to make sure students come to class prepared to read, and stay focused and respectful to their peers while reading in class. It is a 4 point rubric, and focuses on preparedness and performance. Students use it to self-assess their own reading habits, and set a goal to work towards at the bottom. Then I go in and score them with a different color pen on the rubric, so they can see where they believe they are, and where I believe they are on the rubric.

This rubric looks at 5 different areas when students are being assessed on writing a play. The areas that are reviewed on the rubric are as follows: the topic and meaning/purpose relate, what's included in the play - characters, props, scenes, stage, directions, dialogue, and scenes, staying on task, grammar/punctuation/spelling, and working with others. This rubric scores the play writing assignment out of 15 possible points. The rating scale use is a 3, 2, 1, & 0.
