Fairy Tale Scenarios

This is a 3 part individual/group assignment where groups (of 4-6) are given a problem based on a well known fairy tale where students have to write and perform their solution to the problem. Students will write out a monologue individually and as a group will write the body of the script. After the groups have resolved their problem, each group member will have a chance to reflect on how their character feels after the resolution of the problem. This activity would be appropriate for middle school students. This package will provide your students with hours of entertainment that include opportunities to write and showcase their creativity. What Students Will Be Doing:

This is a 3-part assignment that incorporates both individual and group assignments. Groups of students (4-6) are responsible for writing an individual monologue, a group script and a final monologue reflection. Students will take on the role of a character from a well known fairy tale. In the individual monologue, students will get to explore the perspective of their character and how the new dilemma a character is faced with should be solved. The group will then figure out a solution to the dilemma and will write a short script to show their resolution. After the group has resolved the dilemma, each character will have an opportunity to reflect on how their character feels about the outcome. Don't worry I've included some rubrics that you can use for each section too and some worksheets to help guide student thinking.

This rubric looks at 6 different areas when students are being assessed on writing step-by-step directions. The areas that are reviewed on the rubric are as follows: making sure the directions are in sequential order, including a topic, supporting sentences, exact details, and a closing sentence, staying on task, grammar/punctuation/spelling, and working with others. This rubric scores the step-by-step writing assignment out of 18 possible points. The rating scale use is a 3, 2, 1, & 0.

This is a bundle of two resources focused on Ellen Raskin's book The Westing Game. The first resource is a movement-focused comprehension activity in which students are assigned character cards and have to ask each other yes/no questions in order to figure out their classmates' characters. The second resource is a creative writing activity that student can complete right before they finish the book. Students should stop reading at the start of chapter 24 and write their own ending to the book.

With that in mind, I created this end of term reflection assignment that prompts students to consider all of the meaningful experiences they had for the quarter in my class. My students really get into this assignment and I'm sure yours will too!
