Fairy Tale Scenarios

This is a 3 part individual/group assignment where groups (of 4-6) are given a problem based on a well known fairy tale where students have to write and perform their solution to the problem. Students will write out a monologue individually and as a group will write the body of the script. After the groups have resolved their problem, each group member will have a chance to reflect on how their character feels after the resolution of the problem. This activity would be appropriate for middle school students. This package will provide your students with hours of entertainment that include opportunities to write and showcase their creativity. Do you need a series of writing prompts for your students that you can present in your Zoom class or on the projector in your classroom?

This is a great opener for your classroom, whether virtually or face-to-face. Each tab of the book (writing stem prompt) represents a "day in the life" of your student. The students can keep an online journal via Google Docs or they can use an "old fashioned" composition notebook.

This encourages dialogue, creativity, and helps guide supporting details when writing. These can be used over and over again... and get new responses each time! Note: It is a PPT, so you can edit it as needed!

This assignment walks students through defining an extended metaphor, and practicing identifying them in 6 popular songs. (You can play clips of the songs for the kids on YouTube, but I found most of my students were familiar with at least a few of the songs.) Then they read and annotate the poem (full text included) to analyze the extended metaphor. Next, there are 7 accompanying poetry analysis questions. All answers are included! Finally, the students will create their OWN extended metaphor poem in the style of Whitman's by identifying someone who is important to them in their life, and mimicking the style of O Cap to write a poem about them in a synthesis poetry writing assignment.
