Students will enjoy using either Lucky Charms marshmallows or cards to complete Mad Libs. Students will add nouns (the item) or adjectives (the color) to a provided Mad Libs. When they complete this their teacher can have them write their own Mad Libs which they will have a friend complete.

Student will love making nonsense stories for St. Patrick's Day. They will be creative as they think outside the box.

This is such a fun creative writing activity. This activity has students work in a small group to create a fun and unique story. They will be passing around their writing outline to their group of 5. The first student will choose a character and their characteristics. Then fold the paper down so the next student cannot see what they have written. Student 2 will decide the setting and then fold the paper down again. This will continue to student 3 and 4 where they will choose the conflict and the solution. Then the original student will get their paper back and open their paper and use their outline to create their own creative story. This makes the writing a little bit challenging as they try to create a story that was chosen by their fellow classmates. This can also be a super fun and creative way to expand students writing by stretching them a little outside their comfort zone.

Do you need a series of writing prompts for your students that you can present in your Zoom class or on the projector in your classroom?

This is a great opener for your classroom, whether virtually or face-to-face. Each tab of the book (writing stem prompt) represents a "day in the life" of your student. The students can keep an online journal via Google Docs or they can use an "old fashioned" composition notebook.

This encourages dialogue, creativity, and helps guide supporting details when writing. These can be used over and over again... and get new responses each time! Note: It is a PPT, so you can edit it as needed!

(You can play clips of the songs for the kids on YouTube, but I found most of my students were familiar with at least a few of the songs.) Then they read and annotate the poem (full text included) to analyze the extended metaphor. Next, there are 7 accompanying poetry analysis questions. All answers are included! Finally, the students will create their OWN extended metaphor poem in the style of Whitman's by identifying someone who is important to them in their life, and mimicking the style of O Cap to write a poem about them in a synthesis poetry writing assignment.

A Google Slides informational text writing unit about the genocide of Jewish people called The Holocaust which happened during World War II. The unit is ideal for both in-class and distance learning in fifth grade and sixth grade. The unit has been split into four separate lessons.

In the second lesson the children need to use these facts to type four paragraphs and write an introduction. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs before typing up their work on to the template provided.
