These Halloween math riddle sheets are ideal for 7th and 8th graders looking to review Integer Operations. This calculator tutorial series addresses the challenge of a classroom full of students who have a variety of different calculators. The series contains eight of the most popular calculators used in US Middle Schools.

When should students use a calculator in mathematics? When fluency with mathematical procedures without the help of a calculator are well established, students should be able to use calculators with more complex mathematical problems, real-life applications and calculations involving very large and small numbers.

These 30 follow me cards are a great way to revise percentage of amounts including increasing and decreasing a number by a given percent. Play is similar to dominoes, where the cards are placed end to end with the question to the answers, but each question only has one answer.

Students connect the questions and answers together forming a chain, with questions steadily getting harder. For extra challenge, don’t use a calculator.

Some ideas for how to use follow me cards:

-Have students race to connect the cards.

-Have a treasure hunt, around the classroom or outside. Students start with the starter card and record the solutions in the table.

-Students each take ownership of a card, and then get themselves in line correctly with the answers. If there are more than 30 students, assign some students as ‘managers’. If there are less than 30 students, the first students to connect their cards can be given the remaining cards.

- Cut each card in half and give the students a matching activity. They can then glue the answers into their books.

This is a great beginning of the year math activity for your students to get to know one another. It gives them a chance to share who they are using mathematical expressions.
