The Spooky Walk is a call-and-response style seated marching yoga game to get kids in the Halloween spirit. It has been one of the most popular activities of all my years of teaching. When we do this song and game, we get to explore the emotion of being afraid in a safe space. You can take the time to explain that it’s all pretend and give kids practice with the vocabulary related Halloween and being afraid. Words such as scary, ghost, escape, safety, and pretend are all good words to practice prior to this activity. How to Play

The teacher will place children around the room, where each child has enough room to act out the animal without bumping anyone else. The teacher will chant the poem. Students will pretend to sleep. When the animal is called, students will begin acting like the chosen animal. Start another round by chanting the poem again, and all students pretending to sleep again.

For first time BOOM Card™ users, the resource comes with an explanation of how to assign the cards to your class, and has lots of useful links to support you using the activity.

Both activities follow a similar format, with slight variances to the BOOM Cards version to allow the resource to be digital and self-marking.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Jackie Robinson and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will complete a crossword puzzle by answering ten questions. Answering these questions correctly will reveal some hidden letters which need to be unscrambled to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will sort 27 timeline task cards about important sporting events in US history, putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their third word will be revealed.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.
