Thank you for purchasing this resource from my TeachShare store. I appreciate your support and I hope it helps you in the classroom. My aim is to create resources that are accessible and easy to use.

I created this resources out of a need in my class to do quick and simple reading fluency activities that are decodable and aligned with the Science of Reading. As a result of hours of searching on the internet, I decided to make my own.

As I got into using these cute phonics cards in class, the students guided me to stretching out the resource even more to create a cute little packet for them to do a lot of the work on their own.

How we use this in class:

Students get their own whiteboard markers and erasers (we use socks from the dollar store…10 pairs for $1.25). Students insert pages into our plastic pouches and load a page on either side.

They set up a centre where 4 students work together. These cards mean they orally repeat the target sound while pointing to each letter. Next, they write out the letter sound themselves, all while saying the sound again. Then, finally, they decode the word, write in the dotted target sound.

And move onto the next.

Once they are done all 4 cards, students will erase their plastic folder and swap with another student.

My students in Grade 1 and 2 are very adept at this and are now at the stage that I can trust them to be working while I work with a small group.

Who can use this resource:

Teachers who are just getting accustomed to using strategies from the Science of Reading can use these simple sentence strips to open up independent practice, small group evaluation, or up on a digital screen for whole group instruction and reading practice.

Make a set and send them home with students to build fluency in reading and confidence in reading strategies.

Sentences are designed to build a number of common French sounds and get more challenging as they go on.

Correction sheet is handy for use with a substitute as they can confidently assess students and command the lesson even when they are not assured of their French skills.

What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

Looking for a fun spring rhyming activity and center? These Caterpillar Rhyming Word Families are the perfect spring literacy center to practice rhyming words. Learners will have fun practicing rhyming with this rhyming caterpillar spring craftivity. This packet will help learners practice their word families all while building a caterpillar craft. Learners will identify the words that rhyme with each other and match the 'circle bodies' under the correct word family based on the rhyming sounds. Most of the word families have 5 corresponding pictures, except for a few word families. The caterpillar heads contain the word family on the top , while the bodies contain the pictures (and words) of the different word families.

How do learners complete this Spring Caterpillar Rhyming activity?

• Present learners with the caterpillar heads and the circle bodies for the word families you'd like them to work on.
• Learners will sound out the word and identify the word that rhymes with it and match the pieces together to build the caterpillar.
• Learners will match the pictures in the caterpillar parts to the heads of the caterpillar with the correct word family. They will continue doing this until they finish building the caterpillar word family.
• They will create a rhyming caterpillar spring craftivity. Attach the legs to the caterpillar once completed.

Preparing this Spring Literacy Activity for Kindergarten:

• Print the pages, laminate them and cut them apart.

Differentiation:

Earth Day Letter Sound Fluency Strips

Use this low prep Earth Day activity to practice letter sound fluency in preschool, kindergarten or first grade. The cute thematic design will keep students engaged and interested while having fun and developing critical early literacy skills. Simply print, cut and laminate the 8 individual strips of letters and they are ready for use. Students point to each letter as they say the sound. A single strip can be repeated several times to build fluency. These can also be used to identify lower case letter names.

Suggested Uses:

Types of Activities

• Create a hands on literacy or math center by placing the mats and cards in a center.
• Create a write and wipe activity by laminating the mats or placing them in page protectors and providing a dry erase marker.
• Create a sensory bin by adding the letter or number cards inside a sensory bin for students to find.
• Write the Room activity where the teacher hides the cards around the room and students find them to write or trace on their mats.
• Find and Cover activity where students draw a card then use various magnets, mini erasers, or bingo chips to cover the correct letter or number.
• Find and Dot activity where students draw a card then use a bingo marker to dot the correct letter or number.
