  • Instructions Page
  • Terms of Use
  • Black and white copies of the instructions, task cards, and STEM / STEAM printables

  • 5 STEM / STEAM slides for discussion, with space to type in responses to the questions
  • Instructions
  • Terms of Use

************************************************************

How can you use these task cards?

  • Have the task cards available in makerspaces, centers, tubs, busy boxes, morning baskets, or available for early finishers to complete using ANY available materials. Students can even draw their creations instead of building them!

  • Use one card a day during morning time. Have students fill out a STEAM / STEM worksheet or discuss and use the Google Slides as a class.

  • Use them for public speaking practice. Allow students to build and then show and tell with the class or their parents. They can discuss what they made, liked, what they would improve, and how it solved the problem on the task cards. They can practice speaking and listening skills, using loud and clear voices, and giving full attention to the speaker. Encourage students to ask questions to their classmates.

  • Ideally the goal is to do one challenge a day, but you could certainly allow students to do more than one.

**********************************************************

Why do I think you will love this product, and what makes my challenge set unique?

I love silly stories that bring humor and adventure to life for kids, but also that force them to use their imaginations in fun and exciting ways. This challenge task set does exactly that through the loose wacky stories where they are the main character. Silly scenarios, adventure and disaster, problem solving, and learning, are all part of the experience when building these challenges.

Most building challenge task cards are independent from each other. “Build a boat,” or “build an airplane,” are common themes among the cards. While those are fantastic, and we have done many of them ourselves, I wanted to do something different and more cohesive and engaging for kids.

The only rule is to HAVE FUN and allow those imaginations to soar!

**Please note that while the intent is for these to be independent, early readers may need some assistance in reading the cards.**

**This is not an editable document.**

Other Educators Like You Said:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brianna D. says, “I tried this out with my 4th-6th grade students and it was a success. I had some students who were not so enthusiastic that their parents had signed them up for my group. I told them to think of this flipbook as their own journal. Each week we would do a lesson and a page from the flipbook. If students wanted me to read their entry, they placed a sticky note on their flipbook before handing it in. This was a success!”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ SCS says, “I love how this is such easy prep. I think flipbooks often look complicated and need a lot of cutting/formatting but this is so simple. I've struggled to find something interactive to do with my students working through family changes, so I'm really glad I found this! Thank you!”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Carolyn R. says, “Covers a variety of topics that come up with students whose families are going through changes. Visually fun for them to complete and engaging!”

Can They Do That? Episode 1

By Reece's Tech Shop by Scott Reece

Are you looking for a different approach to using the Scientific Method/ Engineering Design Process? “Can They Do That?” is a "TV-show type" series that presents things made in the movies/television and challenges the students to prove or disprove "Can They Do That?" This first episode looks at a hot air balloon contraption built out of hair dryers and trash bags on the A-Team.

Students start the lesson by watching a clip from a TV show (included in PowerPoint). They are presented with a “problem” by the TV Show Host and then they work through the EDP.

This lesson includes the Video Introduction embedded in a PowerPoint with a Student Handout that guides students research, prototype and solution.
