I honestly can't tell you how many students have barged into my office super anxious and full of regret over decisions surrounding their cell phones. This resource allows you to start having open and honest conversations regarding cell phone safety. Images of cell phones with relatable messages for students to relate to. They'll get to read the message and decide if it's safe or not. Students will also get to brainstorm the positives and negatives of owning a cell, and brainstorm rules they feel they should follow in order to be safe and responsible online. Save lots of money while shopping using coupons. This colorful, cheerful binder organizes your coupons and makes it easier for you to find just the right coupon you are looking for while out shopping.Teach your students or children in your household the value of saving money by saving coupons. Create your own coupon binder by using baseball card holders that you can find at many dollar stores or office supply stores. You can either use a two inch or three inch binder to set it up and place all your dividers in. There are two coupon sorting sheets available. Rather than flipping through the pages in your binder to insert coupons which can take a lot of time, you can use the coupon sorting mats. Once your coupons are all sorted then you can place them in your binder. Children of all ages can help with sorting the coupons. Many kids can also help out with gathering coupons and cutting them out. Directions:

• Print and laminate multiple sets of the image cards.
• Divide the class into multiple groups.
• Group members take turns drawing a card from a pile.
• The person who drew a card must not show their team the image or use words to describe it. Ie if it is a rainbow you can only use shapes, lines, and location to describe the drawing and cannot say things like, "it forms after the rain."
• The group member describes and gives directions on how to draw the image.
• The team then tries to use listening skills to copy the drawing based on the directions given.

Do your students know how to properly make entries into a spreadsheet to keep track of their deposits and withdrawals? I have created an Excel and Google Sheets spreadsheet to make it easy for them. Each spreadsheet has 3 tabs - 1) showing them what I created, 2) a blank spreadsheets with headings, & 3) a black spreadsheet so they can follow the easy directions I have provided to create their own. In this lesson, students learn about Red Ribbon Week as they complete a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. A complete answer key is provided for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. Two versions of the WebQuest are included to let teachers print the questions or to provide them digitally as an interactive page in an editable Microsoft PowerPoint file.  Additionally, a word search puzzle (with answer key) is included to use for early finishers or as a part of the lesson.

This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary as well.

Students will learn about sports safety, why it is important, what is needed to remain safe when playing different sports, what to do when an emergency call has to be made, what questions to be prepared to answer when making an emergency phone call, what could be in a first aid kit, what to do when someone experiences shock, symptoms of shock, and how to handle a situation when someone is in shock, taking a pulse - how to do it, how to figure out someone's pulse, and where a person's pulse can be taken, what to do when someone is unconscious, how someone could become unconscious, and what to do with someone's body if they are unconscious while you wait for help to arrive, putting on a bandage if you or someone else is injured and the steps to take, first aid procedures for small and deep cuts, scrapes, and nosebleeds, how to treat injuries, how to stop nosebleeds, what to do if you have an open blister, what to do if you have a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd degree burn and how they differ from each other, information on how to handle sprains, strains, and burns, and what to do if someone is choking and the Heimlich Maneuver needs to be done.

After each section, students will fill in the blanks when given a key with the missing vocabulary words, answer short answer questions, or fill in the blanks based on the previous page on each topic to review.

This social emotional learning lesson uses Sandra Cisneros's short story Eleven. During this SEL lesson, students read the short story, view a YouTube video, and reflect on their own stress responses. There are journal entries and opportunities for small and large group discussions as well.

This resource could easily be used by a substitute.

This lesson has always been a favorite of my middle school students. The topic is enlightening for kids who have felt stress responses without understanding what is really happening in their brains and bodies (pretty much all kids). Eleven is a fantastic story to use when learning about stress response because readers are often frustrated by the way the main character responds to the stressor she faces. This is a great way to integrate SEL into an English class.
