Common Denominator War: Activity
By Colleen Burdette
Competitive Practice:
My students love a competition. I designed this activity to practice finding common denominators while building on that competitive spirit.
Students have a pile of cards which they flip one at a time. Students find the least common denominator of the two fractions on their card. The student with either the highest or lowest common denominator (teacher's choice) will the hand. The game continues until one student has all the cards.
Students get to practice an important skill while having fun.

This is a Skills Poster that is designed to set the grounding for a basic understanding of Percentages and how they work. This poster is meant as a complimentary aid and is to be used with other learning materials. It is a simple visualisation of percentages. Many posters and learning aids show how Percentages work in comparison to other ways of dividing and measuring. There are very few visual aids dedicated to the concept of Percentages first and foremost before comparing it to other ratio methods. The term, "percent", has it's basis in Latin. An understanding of the meaning of the word can help a basic understanding take hold before using the concept to compare it to other forms of dividing and measuring. Recipe Math Puzzle - Converting Measurements - Peanut Butter Cups/Bars
By A Teachers Sidekick
This is a fun activity for students to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and simplification of fractions by converting measurements for a recipe! The recipe comes from Sally's Baking Addiction, and it is her Peanut Butter Bars Recipe. This can be done as a whole group, in small groups, or by individual students. If you have the ability to have the students make the recipe after solving the puzzle, it is totally worth it! They will love being able to make something that they solved a puzzle for and have a delicious treat afterwards.
Students will be given a list of ingredients that have "weird" measurements on them. They will need to convert all of the measurements into the simplest form. Students will have to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and convert fractions from improper fractions to mixed numbers and put all of the measurements into simplest form. Once students solve the puzzle and get the correct answers that match the answer key, then they will receive the steps to prepare the Peanut Butter Bars/Cups. ** I recommend doing the bars. They are definitely easier to do, especially in a classroom setting, but the cups do look better. They both taste the same though.**
I hope you enjoy it and make something yummy! Please rate and review.

Digital Puzzle (Converting Mixed Numbers Into Improper Fractions) Good Hare Day
By Miss Yous Clues and Resources
This product is a digital puzzle that requires students to complete 25 converting mixed numbers to improper fractions. The link to the digital puzzle is on a clickable PDF that you would download once purchased. Students will put the answers in the answer box (numerator/denominator). If the student puts in the wrong answer, the answer box will turn red and no puzzle piece will appear. Students will know that they have completed the activity correctly when all answer boxes are green and all 25 puzzle pieces are there, forming a picture of a bunny in sunglasses floating in a pool. Also included are work pages for students to use while they are completing the digital puzzle which have reminders of how to convert mixed numbers to improper fractions at the top.
