Media Affecting Food Choice Workbook: Understand and Make Healthier Choices

By Michellecurtis

The "Media Affecting Food Choice Workbook" is a must-have resource for educators teaching about media influence on food choices and promoting healthy eating habits. This comprehensive, fully editable workbook includes engaging readings, insightful lessons, and practical tips to encourage balanced diets and informed decision-making.

It delves into the critical analysis of media influence on food choices, addressing key curriculum strands such as:

  • The impact of advertising, marketing, and media on health and nutrition decisions.
  • The role of cultural, societal, and marketing factors in shaping dietary habits.
  • The development of communication skills for promoting personal and community well-being.

Lesson Highlights:

Lesson One introduces students to the importance of balanced nutrition and the five food groups. The reading section provides an overview of the role different nutrients play in maintaining good health, encouraging students to reflect on their own food choices.

Lesson Two focuses on food labels, teaching students how to read and interpret them to make informed decisions. The reading section covers information found on food labels, including serving size, ingredients, and nutritional value, fostering critical thinking about daily food choices.

Lesson Three addresses the influence of media on our food choices, including social media, advertising, and social norms. Students learn strategies to be more mindful of these messages and develop healthy strategies to resist negative influences.

Lesson Four allows students to synthesize their learning by creating a project that showcases their understanding of nutrition facts, food labels, and media influences. This reinforces the importance of healthy food choices and provides a platform for students to demonstrate their knowledge.

Coupon Binder -Teach your students or children the power of saving money

By Regina Frazier

Save lots of money while shopping using coupons. This colorful, cheerful binder organizes your coupons and makes it easier for you to find just the right coupon you are looking for while out shopping. Teach your students or children in your household the value of saving money by saving coupons. Create your own coupon binder by using baseball card holders that you can find at many dollar stores or office supply stores. You can either use a two inch or three inch binder to set it up and place all your dividers in. There are two coupon sorting sheets available. Rather than flipping through the pages in your binder to insert coupons which can take a lot of time, you can use the coupon sorting mats. Once the coupons are all sorted, you can then place them in your binder. Children of all ages can help with sorting the coupons. Many kids can also help out with gathering coupons and cutting them out. Have your students write about ways they can help their family save money. There are a couple of writing prompts that you could use to have your students share ways that they can help their families save money. This does not necessarily mean just using coupons. It could mean saving money by turning off the lights when not in use, not taking long showers, or turning in cans for redemption. Some kids might write about a job they do such as a paper route, mowing the grass or shoveling snow. Some students might choose to discuss buying items on sale at the store and not demanding expensive name brand items."Older students can work on the total amount of savings from using coupons. They can also work on figuring out percentages to show how much money is saved during each shopping trip and totals for each month. If you are interested in this product please download to see a few more pictures of what you will get. This binder includes the following: coupon binder cover front page coupon binder back page coupon binder spine 2inch coupon binder spine 3 inch full page dividers include the following fruits and vegetables dairy frozen foods canned goods meats boxed foods beverages snacks personal care pet care office supplies household restaurants department stores miscellaneous two pages of sorting mats for coupons Monthly Savings Chart two pages of a Writing prompt on ways kids can help their family save money. Prompt is done on two different style writing paper to accomodate younger students and older elementary students. real life picture of the inside of my binder with directions on how to set it up. credit page During these difficult economic times, it is important to save money. I hope you can save money for your own family as well as teach your children and / or students about the importance of couponing and saving money. This is a valuable lifelong lesson. You can apply this to any age level. Best Wishes! Happy Saving!!! This product also comes in chevron green and gray binder covers.
