90 Second Social Studies Famous American Women

By The Magical Avocado

Women's History IS American History! This ready to edit slide presentation has 35 slides highlighting famous American Women. Using during Women's History Month, as daily bellwork, student projects, learning about various times in history, and more!

What is a 90 Second Social Studies Assignment?

90 Second Social Studies Assignments introduce students to a large amount of information in a relatively short amount of time. The 90 second time limit serves as both a way to keep students on task, and to promote the idea of summarizing key details. 90 Second Social Studies Assignments can cover concepts, historical figures, landmarks, and events.

Why does this assignment use Google Slides?

One of the issues with student presentations is the transition time between student presenters. When the presentations are all on the same google slide, transitions become seamless. Google Slides also enables students to work simultaneously on the assignment, and for teachers to observe edits and work in real time.

Do you love historical fiction? My novel, Hearts at War, features a white girl and a Japanese-American boy who are childhood friends whose growing attraction to one another in high school will be severed by war, family and social pressures once they enter college. They come of age in California and coincidence will throw them together again in the Pacific theater of war as they both serve in the military. Will they be able face the challenges of war and find a way back to each other? Available on Amazon or Kindle/Kindle Unlimited. Young Adults/Adults/Interracial Romance. I appreciate any reviews! Rosa Parks | Figurative Language Short Passage Set | Women's History Month

By Perfectly Planned Designs

This Figurative Language Short Passage Set about Rosa Parks is a no-prep, printable close reading activity that's perfect for middle school and high school. Use it during Women's History Month or any time of the year! Featuring Rosa Parks, this is a 216-word passage filled with 15 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. I’ve found that although my students can tell me the definition of these terms, simile is the only one they can truly pick out in a text. As a result, their writing is filled with overused similes that need work! This figurative language passage set is rigorous, uses higher-level words and phrases, and in addition to merely identifying the different types, students will be asked to discuss the impact it has on the reader, as they’re asked to do on standardized testing. Check out my other figurative language passage sets here!

Simply print and go! There is truly no preparation needed, which is why this set is perfect to leave for sub plans, bell ringers, homework, test prep, review or assessment!

*As an optional review activity, use my No-prep Four Corners Figurative Language Activity resource for a fun whole-group game, then use this passage set for assessment!
Activity:
Students can complete all three worksheets as part of a packet, but I suggest using one each day. If you teach allusion, alliteration, idiom, or onomatopoeia, you can ask students to include those in Task 2 where they will be asked to continue the passage using a similar writing style. I have left some blanks on the checklist for this very purpose.

Reflection:
The class can review the answers and comments as a whole group when the activity is complete. You’ll be surprised how much better they’ll get at figurative language after being exposed to some high-quality examples!

INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE:

  • 3 Printable Worksheets
