Arthur's New Puppy is a great book to read for students to learn about being responsible, being patient, not giving up on something that is a challenge and helping others, etc. Students are presented with a variety of comprehension questions based on what happens in the book, Arthur's New Puppy. Students can answer these questions as the book is read to them, as they read the book independently or they can use the text for lookbacks once the book is finished.

My students LOVE storyboards! They are a great resource for introducing basic story elements and summarizing, I use colorful file folders or large manila/construction paper. There are illustrations to color which are surrounded by dotted lines to make cutting easier. There are also interactive flaps for writing the beginning, middle and ending as well as places to write about the characters, setting and summary. This storyboard can be used as a companion activity for The Gingerbread Man.
