Measurement Center - Nonstandard Measurement and Standard Measurement
Nonstandard Measurement Center HALLOWEEN Set includes 24 FUN & ENGAGING Task cards for measuring length. Great for an ongoing math station, just change it out with one of my other seasonal/holiday sets to keep it fresh and engaging!
--------SIMPLIFY YOUR TEACHING, GET YOURS TODAY!--------
This set has 24 colorful themed measurement cards (on 14 pages). Each card is labeled "A, B, C, etc.." and a recording page is given to match. The 24 cards are provided in 2 sets of 12 with each set having a different color border for recording sake. Students circle which set they are using on the recording sheet. The recording page allows for the student to fill in the unit of measure they are working with, unifix cubes, cm. cubes, beans, paperclips, inches, centimeters, etc... so it is very open ended to suit the needs of your curriculum and students abilities. You can print the recording sheet double sided (early finishers) and ask them to measure using 2 different units of measure.
You get 2 choices of recording sheets, one includes estimating and the other is more open ended. SEE PREVIEWS.

Estimating Weight and Building Turkeys: with Conversion Extension (Thanksgiving)
By Colleen Burdette
Engaging, Hands on Holiday Activity:
My students love this delicious project. We like to do it right before Thanksgiving. Students are given weight data concerning the materials used to build a candy and cookie turkey. They use this data to estimate the total weight of the turkey. When estimates are concluded and turkeys are built, students weigh the turkey to find the actual weight.
Students reflect and write about the differences between their estimates and the actual weight of the turkey.
An optional extension has students convert the metric measurements provided to standard measurements. This can be assigned as homework to follow up on the classroom activity.

These clip cards are a great way to test students’ knowledge of telling the time using a physical multiple choice system. It includes o’clock, half past, quarter past & to and 10 & 1 minute intervals, and contains converting between analogue clock & 12 hour, analogue clock & word form, Word form & 12 hour, and 12 hour & 24 hour. The given possible answers have been carefully chosen to allow teachers to spot any misconceptions students may have about telling the time. The idea of this activity is that students work out the correct conversion of the given time, then clip a clothespin/peg or a paperclip to what they think is the correct answer. This activity works equally well when the cards are laminated. Students simply circle the correct answer using a dry erase marker. Alternatively, you can print these on paper, hand out to your class at the end of the lesson, so they can put their names on and circle the correct answer, serving as a great exit ticket/plenary to the lesson. These cards are in colour, but print equally well in grey scale for cost savings. To make them self marking, simply place a dot on the underside of the card pertaining to the correct answer.

A relevant approach to teaching the statistical value of the Median is to have students determine the High and Low temperatures of the weather for a week. To facilitate this, a worksheet has been designed as an easy way to integrate extra practice during Bell Ringers or Warm-Up activities.
